My New Year’s Resolution
One of the things that makes me laugh about our culture is how easy people give up their New Year’s resolution. Most people don’t even make it a couple of weeks into the year and give up on what they set out to do for the year. I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise considering how commitment is one of those things that really isn’t popular anymore. But I decided that it was okay to be different, and I have stuck to my New Year’s resolution.
Now, I suppose I should share what I decided to commit to for the year, right? Well, one of the things that I have really been struggling with is my weight. I am the heaviest that I have ever been, and I am not that pretty when I stand in front of my mirror with my belly hanging over my MMA shorts. Yes, I felt a little sick when I saw that and I knew that if I didn’t do something about it, I would be overweight for the rest of my life. So, I decided to commit to going to the gym five days a week and changing my diet so that I would be healthier.
Making such drastic changes in my life has not been easy. Exercising for the first time in a decade has resulted in body pain in places I didn’t know existed. Also, giving up cheese has been one of the hardest things that I have ever done, and considering it is my favorite food, it has been a real sacrifice. But when I commit to something I am in one hundred percent, so I had to follow through with my decisions.
Now, a few weeks into my life change, I can already feel the difference. My body feels a lot lighter, and I find myself not losing my breath every time that I walk up a flight of stairs. Sure, my belly is still there, but it is looking smaller, so I can live with that. I know that getting back to my ideal weight is going to take some time, but considering how I feel already, I think I have made the right choice. I can’t wait to show off the new me at the beach this summer – I am sure I will turn a few heads.
